Among the lowlights was a pathetic speech by a sadly unprepared and possibly failing Clint Eastwood.
But the worst of all was Paul Ryan.
Now I have spoken kindly about Paul Ryan in the past here on facebook and in my Blog "Unified Visions" http://unifiedvisions.blogspot.com/. But what began so hopefully has fallen from grace. Paul Ryan began seemingly as a bright young conservative with real ideas - in the mold of Jack Kemp and even Newt Gingrich in his less wacky days - You might disagree with his ideas but you respected him for putting them out there and admired his courage to do so.
Disraeli once said "The world is weary of statesmen whom democracy has degraded into politicians." and Paul Ryan is the classic example. In an effort to embellish his ideas and the justify them, Ryan has deteriorated into a self aggrandizing man who runs away from those very ideas or cloaks them in a rose colored coat of deceit.
As my Iroquois ancestors use to say "He speaks with Forked Tongue". One can only hope that the American people will see that Paul Ryan this week lied time and time again, many times about events that he himself participated in and was a key element in the way in which they unfolded: the Simpson Bowles Commission, the struggle to balance the budget; the down grading of America's credit rating to name just a few.
Sad to say, Paul Ryan has a problem with the truth. He can't wage the battle on his own ideas so he must wage it with a campaign of lies.
